4 Steps to Landing your Dream Job

Your dream job may become a reality, sooner than you think. You just have to understand the steps to getting that dream job. The major step is the job application step. The job application process is made up of various stages. These stages are: CV submission, cover letter submission, written tests, and interviews. Let’s discuss what each stage towards getting your dream job involves.

CV Submission

The first stage in the process of landing your dream job is the CV submission stage. A CV (short for curriculum vitae) is also called a resumé. It is a summary of your skills, work experience, personal details, contact information and references.

A resumé tells your prospective employer who you are and what your previous and/or current work experiences are. The CV also tells the prospective employer how to reach you if he/she is interested in taking the application a step forward.

Having an idea of what details a CV should have would guide you in creating your CV. If you want your CV written by a professional, you can reach us at My Sharp Pen Editing Services, sign up and order our CV writing services.

Cover Letter Submission

A cover letter is a formal letter that you write to apply for a job. Another name for a cover letter is  an “application letter’. The letter is usually addressed to the prospective employer, the hiring manager or whoever the job advert says you should address the cover letter to.

Sometimes, you will be asked to send your CV and cover letter together. At other times, you could just send in your CV. If the recruiter finds your CV interesting or considers your skills suitable for the opening, you could be asked to send your cover letter.

The details of a cover letter include: the role you are applying for, your work experience that makes you suitable for the role you are applying for, and your contact details such as email and phone number.

Your cover letter may also include the innate skills that make you predisposed to be a great fit for the job you are applying for.

Written Test

For most companies, a written test is part of the application process. Different companies have their own areas of focus when it comes to their questions. However, as a general rule, companies ask questions that pertain to their industry and the particular products and services they provide.

The best way to prepare for the written test is to carry out research on the company you are applying to. Find out what products and services they provide. You will most likely be asked certain questions about the company, so you should be prepared.

Also, research the particular role you are applying for and how that role functions in the company.  Do your best to know the company like the back of your hand; don’t forget it’s your dream job.

Interview

This is usually the last stage of the recruitment process. Before COVID-19, most companies conducted their interviews face-to-face in their conference halls or some other designated location.

However, since COVID-19 hit, interviews are now done virtually, using communication apps and tools like Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet etc.

Interviews could be conducted by a panel or just one person. They are usually interactive, and you may have an opportunity to tell the interviewers about yourself and your value proposition (what you bring to the table).

Even though the interview stage is usually the last stage, there could be a series of interviews scheduled for different days.

These are the 4 stages to getting your dream job, or at least the 4 stages that actively involve you. The other stages which are the selecting, shortlisting, and recruitment stages are done by the company.

After the interview stage, you simply have to wait for a representative of the company to reach out to you. Hopefully, they will give you positive feedback and ask you to join their team.

Knowing the steps involved in the hiring process will help you prepare better and give it all it takes to get that dream job of yours.
